SACRAMENTO, CA — Today, California Environmental Voters (EnviroVoters) released the following statement on the end of Anthony Rendon’s seven-year run as Speaker of the Assembly. The former Interim EnviroVoters Executive Director is succeeded by Assemblymember Robert Rivas.
Statement from Mike Young, Political and Organizing Director, California Environmental Voters:
“As Speaker Rendon steps down from the longest held speakership since term-limits, we are grateful for the far-reaching impact of his leadership in the Assembly. Without him, last year’s historic climate package and California’s first-in-the-world plastics bill wouldn’t have been possible. His commitment to climate action has made an impact not only nationally but globally.
It has been an honor to work alongside the Speaker from his time as EnviroVoters’ Executive Director and throughout his tenure in the Assembly. As we look back with appreciation, we also look forward to Speaker Rivas’ leadership and welcome another climate champion. A demonstrated leader against fracking and for nature-based climate solutions, we can count on Rivas to stand up to corporate polluters.
With our deadline to prevent climate catastrophe around the corner, we look forward with excitement to Speaker Rivas’ vision for making meaningful climate action. This is our last chance to invest in solutions at the scale required before time runs out at the end of this decade.”

ABOUT CALIFORNIA ENVIRONMENTAL VOTERS
California Environmental Voters (formerly the California League of Conservation Voters) believes the climate crisis is here and this moment requires transformative change. California has the policy solutions to stop climate change but lacks the political will to do it at the rate and scale that’s necessary. EnviroVoters exists to build the political power to solve the climate crisis, advance justice, and create a roadmap for global action. We organize voters, elect and train candidates, and hold lawmakers accountable for bold policy change. We won’t stop until we have resilient, healthy, thriving communities, and a democracy and economy that is just and sustainable for all.
